What You’ll Gain

Upon successful completion of the program and approval by the Virginia State Board of Nursing, you’ll be eligible to sit for the NCLEX-PN exam, which is required for licensure as a practical nurse. The program is approved by the Virginia State Board of Nursing.
Program at a Glance
The Practical Nursing Certificate is a four-semester program with a minimum of 56 credits. Classes begin in the fall semester each year, giving you a clear start date and a structured path to completion.
Graduates are prepared for employment in health-related facilities such as hospitals, clinics, nursing homes, physicians’ offices, and other healthcare agencies.
Admission and Application Details
To be considered for admission, you must be a high school graduate or have a high school equivalency. Required high school coursework includes biology with a lab and algebra, both with a grade of “C” or better.
The Practical Nursing application is due to Admissions by March 6 for fall entry. Admission is competitive and based on factors such as GPA, entrance exam scores, and available seats. Applicants should be prepared to meet health, background check, and clinical placement requirements as part of the program.
