Appointment Date:  April 1, 2010, or as soon as possible thereafter

Primary Responsibilities:

Serves as the academic/education leader of the Division, coordinating the planning, organization and general direction of day and evening instructional activities.

Acts as liaison between Division faculty and the College's President and Vice-President of Instruction.

Develops and implements the Division's class schedules, staffing, budget preparation and execution, and equipment acquisition through State and/or grant funding.

Articulates with personnel within other instructional and service divisions of the College, with Virginia Community College System personnel, and with personnel at other colleges and universities.

Communicates with local schools, health care providers, and community groups concerning the assessment and delivery of educational programs and shares the results with appropriate College personnel and committees.

Promotes professional growth and development of all division personnel.

Conducts annual evaluation sessions with all division personnel.

Assists in curriculum and course schedule development.

Other duties as assigned by the Vice-President of Instruction and President.

 

Qualifications:

An understanding of and a commitment to the community college concept and mission.

Minimum Master's degree in a discipline related to the Division.

Experience in above areas desirable, preferably 5 years in a community college system.

Demonstrated leadership, communication and human relations skills.

The College:

Southwest Virginia Community College is located at the foot of the majestic Clinch Mountains in southwest Virginia.  A comprehensive community college, it serves the rural counties of Buchanan, Dickenson (partial), Russell, and Tazewell.  The college is on U.S. Route 19, near Claypool Hill, approximately 10 miles from the town of Richlands.

SWCC is accredited by the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools to award the associate degree.  The College served approximately 4,000 credit students for an FTE of 2,333 in Fall 2009 in over 80 programs of study.
