Professional Licensure Disclosures

All programs, regardless of modality, are required to provide general (public) and direct (individual) disclosures to students in programs that lead to licensure or certification. This rule applies to educational programs that are either:

Designed to meet education requirements for a specific professional license or certification that is required for employment in an occupation

OR

Advertised as meeting licensure or certification requirements

The following information is intended to publicly disclose any SWCC program, no matter the method of delivery, designed to meet educational requirements for specific professional licensure or certification that is required for employment or is marketed as such. The impacted programs are noted below.

The associate degree nursing program at Southwest Virginia Community College located in Cedar Bluff, Virginia is approved by the Virginia State Board of Nursing and accredited by the: Accreditation Commission for Education in Nursing (ACEN), 3390 Peachtree Road NE, Suite 1400 Atlanta, GA 30326; (404) 975-5000. The most recent accreditation decision made by the ACEN Board of Commissioners for the associate degree nursing program at SWCC is: Continuing Accreditation. Pursuant to United States Department of Education (US DOE) regulation 34 CFR 668.43 (a) (5) (v), the Southwest Virginia Community College Certificate in Practical Nursing (LPN) program provides the following information for all prospective and current students:

The Southwest Virginia Community College LPN program is approved by the Virginia Board of Nursing. 

The Southwest Virginia Community College LPN program meets all Virginia Board of Nursing requirements for pre-licensure nursing education programs in the Commonwealth of Virginia. 

The Commonwealth of Virginia participates with multiple other states in the National Council of State Boards of Nursing (NCSBN) National Licensing Compact (NLC) to allow nurses licensed in one state (primary state of residence) to provide nursing care across state lines in other compact states. Southwest Virginia Community College is regionally accredited by the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools Commission on Colleges (SACSCOC).

The Occupational Therapy Assistant Program at Southwest Virginia Community College is accredited by the Accreditation Council for Occupational Therapy Education (ACOTE®) of the American Occupational Therapy Association (AOTA), located at 7501 Wisconsin Avenue, Suite 510E, Bethesda, MD 20814. ACOTE’s telephone number c/o AOTA is 301-652-AOTA. ACOTE can be found online at ACOTE’s Website. At its recent meeting on April 25-26, 2026, ACOTE reviewed the Progress Reports and Significant Change Request regarding the Occupational Therapy Assistant Program at Southwest Virginia Community College in Cedar Bluff, Virginia. ACOTE voted that the program status be changed to Probationary Accreditation.

The continuing accreditation status of the program was considered at the March 27, 2026 meeting of the Joint Review Committee on Education in Radiologic Technology (JRCERT). The program was evaluated according to the Standards for an Accredited Educational Program in Radiography (2021). The JRCERT awarded the status of: Probation.
