The Southwest Virginia Community College Educational Foundation invites community members, businesses, alumni, and supporters to participate in the 2026 SWCC Scholarship Golf Classic on Thursday, September 24, 2026, at the Tazewell County Country Club. The annual event serves as one of the Foundation's longest-running philanthropic initiatives, providing critical scholarship support for Southwest Virginia Community College students.
For more than 30 years, tournament participants and sponsors have helped raise over $500,000 in scholarship funding, assisting students with tuition, textbooks, required supplies, and certification expenses. Funds generated through the tournament directly help students overcome financial barriers and pursue educational and career goals.
This year's tournament is dedicated to the memory of James "Jim" Boyd and Eugene "Gene" Hurst Jr., whose leadership, generosity, and commitment to Southwest Virginia Community College helped create opportunities for countless students. Their service to the college and steadfast support of the Educational Foundation established a lasting legacy that continues to impact lives throughout the region.
The importance of scholarship support is reflected in stories like that of Kaylen Whitt, an SWCC student studying education who has benefited from multiple scholarships. Active in the Student Government Association, Phi Theta Kappa, and serving as President of the Honors College, Whitt credits donor generosity with allowing her to focus on academics, leadership development, and preparing for a career in elementary education rather than worrying about financial challenges.
"Your generosity doesn't just help students, it shapes lives and creates opportunities," Whitt shared. "Because of your support, I have the opportunity to grow, lead, and pursue my future without finances standing in the way."
The tournament will begin with registration at noon, followed by a 1:00 p.m. shotgun start and an awards dinner at 6:00 p.m. Participants may register individually or as teams, while businesses and community organizations can further support the event through sponsorship opportunities.
The SWCC Educational Foundation encourages individuals and organizations across the region to support the 2026 Scholarship Golf Classic and invest in the next generation of workforce leaders, educators, healthcare professionals, and community members.
