Sunday April 7 Jazz: America's Music Concert

Featuring the SWCC Jazz Band and Jazz Vocal Ensemble under the direction of jazz
Dr. Joseph Trivette. The SWCC ensembles will be joined by guest jazz musicians Matt Vance, Rich Wiley, Dave Morgan, Matt Kendrick, Rick Simerly and SWCC graduate Ryan Mullins.
Enjoy JAZZ at its best-from Dixieland to Swing to Latin….
Admission is $5 at the door.

Friday April 12  The Lone Eagle: The World of Charles Lindbergh

Lindbergh PerformanceSoar with Lucky Lindy in the cockpit of the Spirit of St. Louis as he battles bad weather, exhaustion---and ghosts—to emerge as the first pilot ever to fly non-stop from New York to Paris…and much more to this NO LIMITS! story of courage, heartbreak and success.

A one-man show written and performed by Steve Carroll.

Saturday April 13 The Richmond Indigenous Gourd Orchestra

Hear musical ideas from around the world transformed and given life from the soil of Virginia as produced by these creative musicians on instruments made from garden-variety gourds. They play “gourdeous” music. The orchestra will be joined by the Traditional Music PICK (Playing Instruments Changes Kids) students from Buchanan County Schools, in cooperation with Community Arts Council of Buchanan County.

“I planted a seed and grew an orchestra” proclaims Arthur Stephens, “Professor of Gourdology.”

Sunday April 14 Piano Times Three: presents Pavlina Dokovska, Vladimir Valjarevic and Joseph Trivette

This popular musical extravaganza features three extraordinary pianists, Pavlina Dokovska, Vladimir Valjarevic and Joseph Trivette. In a variety of styles, they will perform selections for four hands, two pianos, four hands and three pianos, six hands!
Composers presented will be Mozart, Gershwin, Barber, Piazzolla and others.

Monday April 15  Cultural Walk: No Limits!

 Dr. J. Randolph Forehand will enlighten us with his informative and creative Cultural Walk, using a multi-media presentation of exquisite visual images and enhancing music to accompany individual vignettes of costumed personages important to the diversity of No Limits! Come and meet Cleopatra, Thomas Jefferson, Joan of Arc, Marie Curie, Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart, Michael Jackson, Galileo, Wright Brothers, Albert Einstein, Martha Graham, Thomas Edison and a medieval engineer, builder of Gothic cathedrals.

A buffet dinner, catered by Your Grate Escape, will precede the Cultural Walk and will include cuisine as prepared by famous chefs such as Julia Child, Paula Deen, Fannie Farmer, Bobby Flay, Emeril Lagasse, Rachel Ray, Wolfgang Puck…..All who never imagined there would be NO LIMITS! to their success!

Sunday April 21  Festival Finale! Knoxville Symphony

Chamber Orchestra Spotlight on SWCC Music Students music students

Always a highlight of the festival, the Knoxville Symphony, conducted by James Fellenbaum, will perform works by Stamitz, Mozart, Goedicke, Boublil and Schonberg and others. A highlight of the concert will be the performance of Saint-Saen’s Piano Concerto, No. 2 performed by SWCC’s Dr. Joseph Trivette. The orchestra will accompany SWCC music majors (pictured) Danielle Muawad, vocal; Emily Rose, clarinet; Jessica Browning, flute and Kelsey Sykes, trumpet and the SWCC Community Chorus, under the direction of Dr. Joseph Trivette.

  • "Gary Bowling's House of Art Presents!"

    This "No Limits" exhibition will be a whole room installation utilizing varied 2-D and 3-D media created by artists young and old. Gary Bowling, a long-time visionary leader for the arts in the southern coalfields and beyond, will present his work and the work of several artists he represents at the Gary Bowling's House of Art in Bluefield, West Virginia.

     They will knock your socks off!

    Appalachian Arts Center

    No Limits: A Celebration of the Creative Spirit

    This exhibition will highlight some of Southwest Virginia's most exceptional artists, including SWCC alumna, Courtney Wyatt.

    Pull out your wildest clothes and join in the celebration at an Art Ball on Saturday, April 20th from 1:00-3:00 pm (at AAC).

    SWCC student musician extraordinaire, John Sharpe, (photo below)will be playing his favorite musical selections, accompanied by SWCC opera and jazz singers, while participating visual artists will be on hand for conversation.

    Come artfully attired and enjoy homemade food, excellent music and a whirlwind of creativity!
