SVCC WELCOME'S You

Welcome to Student Association for Respiratory Care's website located here at Southwest Virginia Community College. This site has been designed by students of our cardiopulmonary program as a supplement to the respiratory curriculum here at SVCC. This site contains material to aid the respiratory student and respiratory care practitioner in the development of his or her career. We have many educational files that relate to the sciences of respiratory care. Many case studies are also located on this page to help promote the process of respiratory healthcare delivery. All of our learners’ biographies are also located on this website. Please feel free to browse through our file list.

There are many PDF, Microsoft Word, and PPT files located on this site that are related to the sciences of respiratory care. Some of these files include topics in microbiology, chemistry, biochemistry, physiology, anatomy, physics, cardiology, pulmonology, pharmacology, mechanical ventilation, x-ray interpretation, polysomnography, electrocardiography, neurodiagnostics, and much more. Please check back regularly for updates. Any updates will be posted below for your reference. This website has been made possible by all of the respiratory care students, the Association for Respiratory Care, the faculty and staff of our program, and all of those here at Southwest Virginia Community College.

Congratulations Class of 2007

Program Purpose

To prepare selected students to qualify as integral members of the health care team, providing diagnostic testing, management, treatment and prevention of cardiopulmonary disease. Upon completion of the program, the new graduate will be eligible to take: 1) the Entry-Level Certification Examination; 2) the Written Registry and Clinical Simulation Examinations for Advanced Respiratory Care Practitioners administered by the National Board for Respiratory Care, Inc. Upon completion of the program, students will demonstrate the ability to comprehend, apply, and evaluate clinical information relevant to their role as registered respiratory therapy practitioners.

Program Vision

To provide the educational venue for learners to learn how best to serve in most any health environment, to appreciate his or her respective talents and skills and then appropriately apply them in the service of others, and continually be willing to learn about themselves, their patients, and the world into which they were born.

Program Missions

(1) To prepare competent respiratory care practitioners at the Entry-Level of practice, and (2) To prepare competent respiratory care practitioners at the Advanced Level of practice.
