Student Accommodations and Services

Project ACCESS provides accommodations only to program participants.   All appropriate documentation must be in place at least three weeks prior to the beginning of each semester.

Project ACCESS wants each of its participants to succeed and  have a meaningful academic experience. To ensure meeting student needs, Project ACCESS offers accommodation and specialized services for program participants.

Some students choose not to identify themselves due to the societal stigma placed on having a disability.  Because of this stigma, many do not seek assistance. This program has found that students who take advantage of the extra support and assistance have a greater chance of successfully completing their goals.

ACCOMMODATIONS
An accommodation allows a qualified student with a disability to have an equal opportunity to attain the same level of performance or enjoy equal benefits and privileges as are available to students without disabilities. Reasonable  accommodations are those which do not impose an undue financial hardship  and/or administrative burden for the program or institution. Also, the accommodation may not require a fundamental alteration in the nature of the program.

Accommodations are individualized, flexible and based on the nature of the documented disability and the academic environment. Documentation must be within the past five years and must be from a private agency, vocational rehabilitation agency, medical doctor, psychiatrist, licensed clinician, or appropriate qualified professional.

*All documentation, medical information, and any other information shared with Project ACCESS is protected by Federal Confidentiality law and HIPPA regulations.

PROJECT ACCESS WILL NOT . . .
• Gather documentation to prove disability.
• Ask faculty to compromise the quality of instruction, evaluation, or sacrifice class standards.
• Provide persons with disabilities personal devices or assistance for personal use.
• Approve accommodations without the appropriate documentation.
