Richlands Open Celebrates 30th Year

The Richlands Open Tennis Tournament will celebrate its 30th year during play July 29-August 2, 2012 at the Richlands Recreation Department.

Bob Nassif serves as Event Coordinator, Mary Ann Strong as Financial Development Manager and Mary W. Lawson is SWCC Coordinator. Richlands Recreation Department Director Fred Phillips, Bill Nuckolls and retired Director Eugene Ringstaff provide special assistance in planning and during the tournament.

Nassif says “we hope to pull out all the stops for this 30th year as it is unusual for an activity to have been so successful for so many years.”

The proceeds from the tournament will go to Southwest Virginia Community College for their scholarship program, with gifts being made to the SWCC Educational Foundation. This support provides scholarships for deserving students at SWCC, either in the respiratory care program or the music program. The scholarships are the Richlands Open Tennis Tournament Scholarship in Respiratory Care and the Bob Nassif Music Scholarship. Last year’s tournament raised over $10,000 for these two scholarships.
