Groundsman Training

Southwest, in partnership with TCR Management Group, will offer Groundsman Training to provide skilled entry-level workers for regional utility employers. 

Training begins August 6th at SWCC and will be offered Monday through Friday, 8:00 a.m. - 4:30p.m. with 128 instructional hours, Trainees will learn about safety, protective equipment, knot tying, basic work zone, grounding equipment, transformers, materials and tools, flagging course, installing sleeves, CDL Class B Learner’s Permit review, CPR/First Aid, and 10 hour OSHA training. 
An Information Session for interested participants will be held on July 13 at 9:00 a.m. at SWCC in Davis Hall. room-DA120

The Groundsman Training Program is the first step up the career ladder to a promising career as a Lineman.  Starting salary ranges for Groundsmen is between $25,000-37,000 with experienced Lineman salary ranges between $50,000 and $85,000. With an 85% placement rate, TCR Management Group has a proven track record in providing the right connections to course completers.  Endorsement and willingness to hire program completers has been expressed by regional Energy employers including Bristol Virginia Utilities, Pike Electric, Davis Elliot, CW Wright, and Richardson Wayland. Tuition assistance for eligible participants is possible through Workforce Investment Act and Department of Rehabilitation Services.  The target population will be WIA eligible trainees, Department of Rehabilitation Services clients, Veterans, displaced workers, underemployed workers, unemployed individuals, and GED graduates from Russell, Tazewell, Buchanan, Dickenson (partial) Counties.
