Southwest Virginia Community College’s Title III grant recently sponsored a
career studies certificate in Basic IT Skills to enable employees to upgrade
their IT skills. The program consisted of hybrid and face-to-face one-credit
classes held on Tuesdays. The certification required nine (9) credit hours to
complete. Eleven classified staff members completed the certification in May.
“This was a great learning opportunity,” said Shelly Musick, Administrative &
Office Specialist III, Institutional Advancement Division. “These classes were
very informative but also fun. For example I thoroughly enjoyed learning new
applications for my iPad.”
The classes included Introduction to Windows 7, Word Processing I, Microsoft
PowerPoint 2010, Microsoft Excel 2010, Microsoft Publisher 2010, Adobe
Photoshop, Microsoft Outlook 2010, Topics in Using the iPad, and Microsoft
SharePoint Designer 2010.
For those individuals interested in the Basic IT Skills Certification, classes
will be offered to the public during the Fall 2012 and Spring 2013 semesters.
These courses can be taken in the classroom or online. For more information,
