Recipients of the 2009 Virginia Workforce Development Services Chancellor’s Award

Southwest Virginia Community College has announced the recipients of the 2008 Virginia Workforce Services Chancellor’s Award. This honor is awarded annually to individuals who have made exceptional contributions to the advancement of the region’s workforce. This year’s ceremony was hosted by Wytheville Community College with Trenton Hightower, vice chancellor of workforce development services, presenting awards.

Larry Hughes, Associate Professor and Project Manager, received the award for Occupation Specific Instructor for his work with the SWCC Construction Academy. Tony Hess, database architect for Northrop Grumman and adjunct instructor of Information Systems Technology, received the award for Occupation Specific Instructor for teaching in the Accelerated IST program and mentoring students interested in IT careers. Sharon Peery, Director of Career Services/Tech Prep, received the award for Career Pathways for her work with local and regional career fairs, preparation for employment seminars, student orientation and a variety of Tech Prep sponsored events such as the Career Pathways Opportunity Showcase.
