SWCC is still accepting applications for the fourth annual Music, Art, and Drama (MAD) Camp. This week-long camp is focused on providing rising 3rd through 9th graders with an enriching experience of various arts. MAD Camp will be held the week of July 20th through July 24th from 9:30 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. in the Community Center on the SWCC campus. Each day, campers will have the opportunity to create music, art, and perform on stage. Students will also be able to design their own Camp T-shirt.
Each day of the Camp, participants will be entertained by some aspect of the arts that they wouldn’t normally have the opportunity to experience. These special performances are also open to the general public and take place at 12:00 p.m. daily.
MAD Camp is very fortunate to receive the services of talented, experienced leaders for each of the arts. Area artists will perform hand bells, demonstrate Civil War music, entertain students with the songs of Broadway, help celebrate the 200th birthday of composer Felix Mendelssohn, and participate in a performance of improvisational theatre. During the last day of camp, Friday, July 24th, the students will present a showcase performance to share with the public which will encompass all of the week’s experiences.
The cost of the camp is $100.00, which includes all fees, students’ lunch each day, and camp supplies. Limited scholarships for the camp are also available; applications may be obtained by contacting Taylor or Fuller. For more information about the camp or to acquire any applications, please contact Pauline Taylor, 276.964.7619, or Wrenda Fuller, 276.889.4738.
