MAD CampSWCC will be the hosting for the fourth summer Music, Art and Drama (MAD) Exploration Camp, July 20 through 24. Students who are entering grades three (3) through nine (9) are eligible to apply. Camp will be from 9:30 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. each day with the camp culminating on Friday with a picnic and “show and tell” program for parents and the public, beginning at 5:00 p.m. The fee for the camp will be $100. A limited number of scholarships will be available.

The theme for this year’s camp will be “Trip Around the World.” Each day a different country or different culture will be selected and students will experience the music, art and drama forms of that country or culture. Plans will also include creating the crafts and learning the dances associated with the country. Mary Lawson, director of the SWCC educational foundation said, “this theme is especially appropriate this year since the theme for the Festival of the Arts in April will include performances from the cultures of many countries showcased in the first fourteen festivals.”

The camp director is Wrenda Fuller of Lebanon. Joey Bland and Tara DeFrancisco, who are members of the Second City Stage in Chicago, will be returning to be workshop leaders for theater. Beth McCoy, founder and director of the East Tennessee Children’s Choir, will be the workshop leader for music. Abby Bland, a Richmond-area artist and most recently artistic director for several theater productions in New York and Richmond, will be the art workshop teacher. Applications for the MAD Camp will be available by the first of April. Please call Wrenda Fuller, 276.889.4738, or Mary Lawson, 276.964.7348 for information.
