Pictured are some of the winners of the writing contest held in conjunction with the recent Appalachian Heritage Writers Symposium at Southwest Virginia Community College. Skeens of Bristol, VA, the first place award in poetry, in memory of Lou Crabtree of Abingdon, VA; Cheryl Senter of Bristol, TN, second place poetry, in memory of Ralph Steve Coleman of Wytheville, VA. Winning contest entries, with the authors’ permission, will be posted on the symposium website at www.appheritagewritersym.wordpress.com .

 

Winners of the writing contest held in conjunction with the recent Appalachian Heritage Writers Symposium at Southwest Virginia Community College were announced this week by the symposium committee.

The first place fiction award, sponsored by Appalachian Authors Guild and Associates, went to Michael Samerdyke of Big Stone Gap, VA; second place fiction, sponsored by Clinch Valley Bank, went to Ben E. Campbell of Pearisburg, VA; and third place fiction, in honor of Adda Leah Davis of Rosedale, VA, was won by Lynn Veach Sadler of Sanford, NC.

First place in non-fiction, sponsored by Eagle Realty, went to Christine Osborne of Jonesborough, TN; second place non-fiction, sponsored by Reminiscent Writers, was won by Morgan H. Wood of Galax, VA; and third place non-fiction, sponsored by Mark and Trish Estepp, went to Linda Hoagland of North Tazewell, VA.

The first place award in poetry, in memory of Lou Crabtree of Abingdon, VA, went to Rufus A. Skeens of Bristol, VA; second place poetry, in memory of Ralph Steve Coleman of Wytheville, VA, was won by Cheryl Senter of Bristol, TN; and third place poetry, sponsored by Len and Annette Kogut, went to C. A. Rose of Gray, TN.

First place winners in each category received a monetary award of $250, second place, $100 and third place, $50. Winning contest entries, with the authors’ permission, will be posted on the symposium website at www.appheritagewritersym.wordpress.com.
