SWCC Celebrates Oktoberfest in April

Out of season but lots of fun just the same, SWCC will celebrate OKTOBERFEST, Saturday, April 25, at Crab Orchard Museum.

Beginning at 6:30 p.m. guests will be feted to a German buffet catered by Your Grate Escape. The menu will include Beef Goulash, Pierogies with Sauerkraut and Mushrooms, Stuffed Cabbage Rolls, German Potato Salad, Pickled Beet Salad, Black Forest Cake and Apple Custard. A beverage bar will provide traditional German wine and beer and soft drinks.

Following the buffet, The Sauerkraut Band, of Mountain Lake fame, will provide traditional German “ohm pah” music to recreate the lively experience normally found in the beer halls and tent throughout Southern Germany. The band uses a unique blend of the traditional trachten (clothing) and authentic musical interpretations to provide high energy performances and audience participation. The music and dance will feature the Polka, Waltz, Reinlander, Schottisch and Landler. Dance demonstrations by the musicians and dancers will encourage guest participation.

The cost of the OKTOBERFEST is $25 per person, which includes three complimentary beverages. Reservations must be made in advance by April 20 by calling 276.964.7348 or mail checks to: Festival of the Arts, Attn.: Mary W. Lawson, Southwest Virginia Community College, P. O.
