SWCC's Festival of the Arts opens with Jazz Concert

Jazz is considered America’s Music with its roots and original rhythms originating in Africa. During the Festival of the Arts: A Retrospective –1995-2009, it is appropriate to begin the festival with the truest form of American music. This year’s festival is celebrating its Fifteenth Anniversary in presenting some of the favorite music from years past.

The Festival Fanfare!: Jazz – America’s Music will feature The SWCC Jazz Combo and Ensemble, Joseph Trivette, director and professional jazz trumpeter, Rich Willey. This ensemble has become well known in recent years as stellar jazz musicians as they have performed at SWCC many times.

The program will include favorites such as Gershwin’s I Got Rhythm and Summertime, Brubeck’s Blue Rondo a la Turk, Duke Ellington’s In a Sentimental Mood and will include the Tennessee Waltz, Never on a Sunday and In the Mood. The concert will be held on Thursday, April 16, at 7:30 p.m. in the King Community Center. Admission is by voluntary donation at the door.
