Dr. Shari Stacy, professor of English at Southwest Virginia Community College, recently visited the Benemérito Instituto Normal Del Estado in the city of Puebla, Mexico, where she taught in a summer Master’s degree program for Mexican teachers of the English language. Partnering with professors from Appalachian State University in Boone, NC, Stacy focused on British writers and teaching the essay.

"Getting to know the Benemérito students and the Mexican citizens in general was a remarkable event. I was overwhelmed with the warmth and kindness of all the people whom I met. Their enthusiasm for their studies and for life overall is inspiring,” said Stacy. The program’s cohort, consisting of 14 students, will visit ASU in January. "I will meet with them again during this time as they plan their Master’s theses proposals," she said. Stacy will host a dinner at her home to welcome the students to the area.
