Mountain Music Jamboree Set for Saturday, January 26

Southwest Virginia Community College will host the 7th Annual "Mountain Music Jamboree" on Saturday, January 26 beginning at 6:00 p.m.  The performances will take place in the Charles R. King Community Center Auditorium and will feature the talents of some of southwest Virginia’s finest Old Time and Bluegrass performers.

"The idea for the showcase developed through the Traditional Music Program classes sponsored by the college. Students from the area meet each week at SVCC to learn and play music indigenous to this region and needed a venue to gain performance experience,” said Jonathan Romeo, the June O. Shott Artist-In-Residence. Romeo is director of the Traditional Music Program at SVCC. The program offers classes in Old Time and Bluegrass fiddle, banjo, mandolin, guitar and string band.

The 2008 Mountain Music Jamboree will feature: the SVCC String Band directed by Ebby Jewell (Traditional Music Program faculty), Dale Elswick & Blue Praise (Traditional Music Program faculty), Jeff & Tony Brown (Traditional Music Program faculty), Ron Mullennex & Friends, Bluestone, Foggy River, Roscoe Davis, Cheyenne, Golden Age Grass, and the Bluegrass Kinsmen.

Admission is free and the Showcase is open to the public.  Flat-footers are welcome! Dinner and concessions will be sold beginning at 6:00 p.m. to benefit the SVCC Art Club and Learning Community. For more information please contact Jonathan Romeo at 276.964.7742.
