 SWCC Commonwealth Legacy Scholarship Recipient

Danielle McMillen of Cedar Bluff is the Alex E. Booth, Jr., Commonwealth Legacy Scholarship recipient from Southwest Virginia Community College for 2008-09. She was recently honored, along with the other 22 Virginia Community College System recipients, at a luncheon in Richmond, Virginia.

McMillen graduated at the top of her class at Twin Valley High School in Buchanan County, despite many obstacles and adversity that might have prevented her from completing high school. She works to support herself, but balances the responsibilities of work and academics well. She wants to be a role model for others and to become a high school teacher. McMillen’s $3000 scholarship is provided by the Virginia Foundation for Community College Education.

Booth, Jr. was recognized by SWCC and VCCS as the recipient of the Chancellor’s Award for Leadership in Philanthropy . Booth’s generosity made possible the construction of the Booth Center in Grundy which is shared by SWCC and the Appalachian School of Law. Booth resides with his wife, Kay, in Stuart, FL.
