Dr. Len Kogut is the new vice president of finance and administrative services at Southwest Virginia Community College. Although he has been in his new position for just a few months, he has brought years of experience in the financial realm to the college.
“We are extremely fortunate to have an individual of Len’s caliber on our leadership team,” said Dr. J. Mark Estepp, president of SWCC. “We, as well as all Virginia state agencies, are looking at how best to budget our funds in order to maximize resources. During the weeks that Len has been with us, he has proven himself an adept financial leader.”
Kogut has twenty-eight years of increasingly responsible higher education experience in management, accounting, administration, budgeting, and finance. He served as the associate vice president for administration for Binghamton University, in Binghamton, New York, before accepting the position at Southwest.
“One of the main reasons that I accepted this position is because of Dr. Estepp and his wife, Trish,” said Kogut. “During the interview process, I was struck by the level of their commitment to serving both the college and community. My wife, Annette, agreed that this would be a perfect move for both of us. We are both excited to be here.”
But life is not all work and no play for the vice president. To take his mind off the responsibilities of his office, he takes to the highway to visit family and friends, to the garage to work on his toys, or to the outdoors.
His philosophy of success is simple. “At the end of the day, when my work here is done, I want to know that I have made a positive impact on Southwest Virginia Community College.”
Kogut and his wife, Annette, hail from Michigan and have two sons, Thomas “Tommi,” and Leonard “Lennie” V. Kogut, III. “Both of them are grown and living lives of their own,” said Kogut. “But we are still constantly in touch and are a close-knit family."
