The internationally acclaimed U.S. Army Jazz Ambassadors of Washington, D.C. will continue its long history of presenting free public performances when it appears at Southwest Virginia Community College on February 23, at 7:00 p.m. in the Mary White Lawson Auditorium of the King Community Center.

As the premier touring jazz ensemble for the United States Army, the Jazz Ambassadors travel thousands of miles each year throughout the nation and abroad, to promote patriotism and good will for members of the U.S. armed forces. Since its formation in 1969, the Jazz Ambassadors have appeared in all 50 states and throughout North America, Europe, and Asia.

The Jazz Ambassadors have appeared in a variety of high profile contexts, including performances with the Detroit, Pittsburgh, and Baltimore Symphony Orchestras. Several of the world’s largest jazz festivals have featured the Jazz Ambassadors. Concerts by the Jazz Ambassadors are designed to entertain all types of audiences. The group presents a diverse program of big band swing, Latin music, contemporary jazz, popular tunes, standards, Dixieland, and patriotic selections.

Members of the Jazz Ambassadors are selected by highly competitive audition and represent some of the finest musical talent in America. More than three decades of touring have earned them the title, “The Musical Ambassadors of the Army.”

Dr. Joseph Trivette, SwVCC’s Albert Endowed Chair of Music states, “It is with great excitement that we sponsor this concert by the Jazz Ambassadors. The musicianship of this group is superb, and audience response to their concerts is phenomenal. We are delighted to host this impressive and universally-acclaimed jazz ensemble.”
