NEW Medical Lab Technology Program Accepting Applications for Fall Semester

The Medical Laboratory Technology (MLT) Program of Wytheville Community College (WCC) is partnering with SwVCC to offer training necessary for an associate degree in MLT on the SwVCC campus. Students can take lecture classes via distance learning and laboratory sessions on the SwVCC campus without traveling to Wytheville.

Clinical training necessary for the program will be conducted in local area hospitals. Graduates of the MLT Program are prepared to perform and evaluate a wide variety of procedures ranging from blood collection to the use of automated computerized instruments in the clinical laboratory. Analytical skills acquired as an MLT are transferable to a variety of other laboratory settings such as industrial, pharmaceutical, agricultural, and reference laboratories. The MLT Program of WCC can also be an important step toward advanced careers in the clinical laboratory, medicine, research, marketing, management, and education.

If you are an analytically-oriented and have an investigative nature, the MLT Program would be an excellent career option. A recent survey of the southwestern region of the State of Virginia indicated a significant regional shortage of laboratory personnel in the next ten years.

The MLT Program of WCC is approved by the State Council of Higher Education in Virginia (SCHEV) and is accredited b the National Accrediting Agency of Clinical Laboratory Sciences (NAACLS.)
