Jackson, MS— Dr. Charles King, president emeritus of Southwest Virginia Community College, has received the 2007 Michael Bennett Lifetime Achievement Award from Phi Theta Kappa International Honor Society of the Two-Year College.
The Michael Bennett Lifetime Achievement Award is awarded annually to retiring college administrators for their commitment to Phi Theta Kappa throughout the course of their academic career. Recipients are honored for their participation in promoting the goals of Phi Theta Kappa through their support of their campus chapters and their Phi Theta Kappa regions. The awards are named in honor of Dr. Michael Bennett, former President of St. Petersburg Junior College.
Dr. King has supported the chapter by ensuring funding for chapter advisors and members to attend Phi Theta Kappa programs and meetings. He has nominated students for the Jack Kent Cooke Scholarship Program, All-USA Academic Team and the Coca-Cola Two-Year Scholarship Program. He has signed letters of invitation to eligible students and has spoken at the chapter’s orientation and induction ceremony. Dr. King has also helped to secure Phi Theta Kappa Transfer Scholarships at senior colleges.
“We are pleased to recognize Dr. Charles King for his outstanding support of Phi Theta Kappa. His efforts on behalf of the Southwest Virginia Community College chapter of Phi Theta Kappa, and of our regional and international programs, have provided opportunities for excellence for numerous students and faculty members,” said Executive Director Rod Risley. “The Michael Bennett Lifetime Achievement Award acknowledges these individuals who exemplify the very best in college administrators who are student-focused.”
