Southwest Virginia Community College officials have announced that Dr. Barbara Fuller has been appointed as Dean of the Business Division. Fuller also served as a Professor and as Director of Workforce Development during her 22 years at Southwest. “I am excited about this new opportunity of service to the college and the communities which it serves. I feel my educational background and previous experience in Continuing Education and Workforce Development have adequately prepared me to take on the responsibilities of the position,” said Fuller.
Fuller earned an Ed.D in Community College Education and M.S. in Vocational-Technical Education from Virginia Polytechnic Institute & State University, a B.S. in Consumer & Life Skills from East Tennessee State University and an A.S. in Pre-Teaching from Southwest Virginia Community College.
She is a Rotary International Paul Harris Fellow and served as Virginia District 7570’s first appointed female Lt. Governor in 1996- 1997. She is a 4-H All Star. Recent awards include: Southwest Virginia Educator of the Year in 2000, and NISOD Teaching Excellence Recipient in 2000 and 2001, Delta Kappa Gamma International – Iota State’s Making A Difference Award in 2005.
In addition, Fuller is an active member of the Beta Psi Chapter of Delta Kappa Gamma and serves on the Iota State Legislative Affairs committee. She is a member of the SwVCC Community Chorus. She currently serves on the Board of Directors for the Reddy Tri-County Health Clinic. She is an active member of Bethel Baptist Church and serves as the church organist. She is married to Kemper Fuller, Jr., has two children and resides in Lebanon, Virginia.
