Interim President Named for Southwest Virginia Community College

RICHMOND – Dr. William Snyder of Wytheville has been named interim president of Southwest Virginia Community College in Richlands, effective Jan. 3, 2007, Virginia Community College System Chancellor Glenn DuBois announced today.

Southwest Virginia Community College President Dr. Charles R. King is retiring as of Jan. 1, 2007. Dr. Snyder will preside over the college while a search for a replacement for Dr. King is under way, a process that could take six to nine months.

“We are bringing back one of our best to preside over Southwest Virginia Community College during this interim period,” Dr. DuBois said. “Bill knows Virginia’s community colleges – and the southwest region of Virginia – very well. He will be an excellent leader while we conduct an extensive search to find a permanent replacement for Charles King.”

Dr. Snyder, a former community college president himself, retired as president of Wytheville Community College in 2000 after 26 years with Virginia’s community colleges. Before becoming president in 1980, he was the academic dean at Wytheville Community College from 1974-1980.
“With the appointment of Bill, the college and the VCCS are now prepared to move forward with the search. Our aim is to find the very, very best to replace the very, very best in Charles King.”

Welcome to a New Year at SwVCC.
