WHAT IS IT? |
| You’ve exhausted the resources at the SWCC Library. You’ve found other citations of items that would help you immensely in completing your project, course prospectus or continuing studies. Where do you turn? |
| Interlibrary loan can help. It is a cooperative effort between libraries to provide better services for their patrons. If the SWCC Library doesn’t have what you want, then use the ILL services to meet that need. |
WHAT’S THE COST? |
| The SWCC Library does not have a set charge for Interlibrary Loan Services, but borrowers are responsible for any charges for photo-reproduction or any other fees assessed by the lending library. The SWCC Library will endeavor to secure these materials as quickly and as inexpensively as possible. If any transaction includes a cost you will be notified before shipment is accepted. |
| NOTE: If materials are not
returned, damaged, or destroyed, the lending library will assess a
replacement cost which will be the responsibility of the borrowing
patron. If the obligation is not met,
then borrowing privileges will be suspended, until such obligation
is paid. These charges will also
be reported to the SWCC Business Office on a quarterly basis,
which can result in blockage of transcript retrieval and/or enrolling for
classes until the obligation is met. |
WHAT ABOUT COPYRIGHT? |
| There are some limitations, due to copyright. The copyright law of the United States (Title 17, United States Code) governs the making of photocopies or other reproductions of copyrighted materials. Under certain conditions specified in the law, libraries and archives are authorized to furnish a photocopy or other reproductions. One of these specified conditions is that the photocopy or other reproduction is not to be "used for any purpose other than private study, scholarship, or research." If a user makes a request for, or later uses, a photocopy or reproduction for purposes in excess of "fair use", that user may be liable for copyright infringement. This institution reserves the right to refuse to accept copying order, if, in its judgment, fulfillment of the order would involve violation of copyright law. |
HOW DO I MAKE A REQUEST? |
| A current library photo I.D. card is required for this service. If you don’t have one, just drop by the circulation desk and apply for one. Be sure to bring your driver's license. You must be 18 years old or older, otherwise written parental permission is required. |
| There is a request form for periodical articles and other serials and another form for books, videos, and dissertations. These forms are located at the ILL/Information Services desk and can be requested from any library personnel...OR...make your requests online! Requests from faculty/staff can also be phoned in to one of our personnel, or sent by campus mail. |
