The Division of Institutional Advancement is a unit within the Office of the President that promotes leadership and involvement among individuals who support the mission and goals of Southwest Virginia Community College.  The Division is responsible for promoting and enhancing the image of the College, for advancing the College’s institutional and fundraising agenda and facilitating understanding, participation, and support of the College’s students, faculty, alumni, trustees, parents, friends, corporations, foundations, legislators and others who have an interest in promoting and supporting the College.

IA closely collaborates with constituencies and administrative units of the College and with external entities as well.  The Division’s major offices include:  Alumni Relations, Educational Foundation, Grants Development and Planning, and Public Relations and Marketing.

The Office of Institutional Advancement carries out its mission through the following operating offices:

Alumni Affairs

The Alumni Affairs Office supports the institutional mission, vision, goals and priorities; fosters a spirit of cooperation, communication and fellowship among alumni to provide alumni benefits, programs and opportunities through a continued affiliation with SWCC.

Grant Development

The Grant Development Office acquires funding primarily through federal, state, and local agencies to ensure that SWCC has the financial resources to carry out its mission and vision effectively. The office functions include identifying funding sources relevant to the College's programs, initiatives and needs; preparing grant proposals; and providing assistance to faculty and administrators seeking external support.

Educational Foundation

The Educational Foundation acquires funding primarily from foundations, corporations, friends, and alumni to ensure that SWCC has the financial resources to be a world-class institution. In addition, the Educational Foundation is responsible for donor relations and stewardship, special event planning, and for the timely recording, receipting and acknowledging of gifts to SWCC.

Public Relations and Marketing

The Public Relations and Marketing Office enhances the image, reputation and visibility of the College within the community locally and statewide. Its mission is to generate effective and comprehensive communication to the various constituents and public concerning SWCC’s accomplishments, events, support needs and resources while developing and implementing new communication vehicles that support the vision and mission of the College.
