Governor's School 2008 June 16th - July 3rd, 2008 Keynote Speaker TBA About Governor's School The SVCC Governor's Summer School for Science & Technology has been devised to meet the needs of students in the Virginia counties of Buchanan, Dickenson, Russell and Tazewell. The school operates on a non-resident basis and is three weeks in duration Five lead faculty members, recruited, screened and selected by the School's Governing Board, provide for instructional experiences in the areas of Technology, Environmental Sciences, Life Sciences and Medicine, and Engineering Sciences. More than seventy-five enrollees, selected from area high schools are divided into five groups of sixteen students each. The incorporation of visiting lecturers of national eminence, coupled with capstone field activities, counseling and career mentoring experiences lend considerable dynamism to the effort. Students participating in the SVCC Governor's School for Science and Technology receive seven college credits which may be applied to their program of study at SVCC or may transfer to other colleges and universities.
