Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics Scholarship Program at Southwest Virginia Community College

Southwest Virginia Community College and the National Science Foundation are pleased to announce a scholarship program that will provide up to  $7,825 in scholarship assistance over two years for 26 undergraduates in one of the following majors: Computer Aided Drafting and Design, Computer Electronics Technology, Electrical/Electronics Technology, Engineering, Environmental, or Science.  Scholarships may be used for tuition, books, and supplies.  Twenty-six scholarships will be awarded for four consecutive years beginning in the fall of 2008.

The primary goal of the Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics Scholarship (S-STEM) Program is to increase the number of talented, but financially disadvantaged undergraduates who achieve associate degrees in the programs listed above.  The project will focus on recruitment and retention of S-STEM students to degree achievement.

All applicants must meet the the following standard criteria:

1. U.S. Citizen, national or alien admitted as a refugee at time of application.
2. Financial need, defined by the U.S. Department of Educations as Cost of Attendance (COA) minus the Estimated Family Contribution (EFC) for undergraduate students
3. Full-time enrollment (12 credits per semester)
4. Academic merit; and if selected, continued academic achievement by maintaining a 2.8 each semester.

Once selected, a student will be required to maintain full-time status, make progress toward completion of one of the programs listed above and participate in related program support activities such as "S-STEM" Club, Big Brother/Big Sister initiatives and special activities. See the Recognitions page.
