The SWCC Construction Academy is funded in part by a $1.8 million grant awarded under the President’s Community-Based Job Training Grants, as implemented by the U.S. Department of Labor’s Employment and Training Administration. Pre- Apprenticeship Program Specialized Skilled Craft Training
The SWCC Construction Academy provides an opportunity for students to acquire the skills needed to obtain a career in the exciting building trades industry, in which the demand for trained workers is on the rise.
Students receiving certifications or degrees through the program will be awarded some very impressive credentials. The SWCC Construction Academy provides training in compliance with and following national organizations, providing opportunity to be credentialed; programs are pending design and approval at this time.
Pre-Apprenticeship Program
This 16-week curriculum offers an overview of the construction industry and focuses on a respective trade:
Carpentry - Electricity - Plumbing - HVAC - Masonry - Welding
> Courses for Welding and HVAC begin in Fall 2008.
> The program is FREE! Enrollment is limited. The grant will pay tuition and books for students in the program.Specialized Skilled Craft Training
Students can earn advanced certifications in one of the following trades:
Coming Fall 2008: Electricity - HVAC - Welding
Coming Fall 2009: Carpentry - Plumbing - MasonryAdvanced Studies
Students who want to learn the skills to supervise a job site or own their own business can enroll in one of three new programs beginning in Fall 2010:
Construction Supervision--Career Studies Certificate
Entrepreneurship--Career Studies Certificate
Construction Management--Associate of Applied Science Degree
