The Engineering program at Southwest is created around courses taught at four-year institutions. In most cases identical problems are assigned and the same textbooks are used. This, in conjunction with SWCC’s small class size and emphasis upon learning, creates a much more conducive learning environment.
The Engineering Division is comprised of sixteen full-time faculty
whose purpose is to serve those full and part-time non-employed or
employed individuals from the college’s service area who desire to
explore and/or pursue technical/professional/occupation programs
and subject areas within the domain of the applied sciences and
engineering technologies.
The service may take place on or off campus and may assume several
forms, including formal Associate degrees, Diplomas, Certificate
and Career Study programs, special need-based seminars, workshops
and
courses, special training and education for specific industries,
and educational enrichment efforts. These efforts assure that all
citizens of the college’s service area will have a continuing
opportunity for the
furtherance of knowledge, extension of skills and fruitful
participation in society.
Functionally, the Engineering Division comprises two distinct areas:
Academic program
areas whose principal concern is serving traditional
students in existing Associate, Diploma, or Certificate
programs.
Industrial Training whose principal
concern is meeting the education and training needs of the
area business and industry.
