The purpose of CommonHealth of Virginia is to assist state employees, their families, and state retirees, in identifying and changing unhealthy behavior and lifestyles. Participants in CommonHealth identify their own health risks by filling out a health risk appraisal and participating in a medical screening at the worksite. Each participant reviews a confidential health risk profile which pinpoints personal health risks and areas that need improvement and which outlines the steps necessary to make positive lifestyle changes.
There are many health promotion programs delivered at the worksite. A variety of fitness activities, as well as programs on weight loss, nutrition, stress management, AIDS education, seatbelt safety, healthy back, hypertension, etc. are available.
