Science, Technology, Engineering, and
Mathematics Scholarship Program at Southwest Virginia Community College
Southwest Virginia Community College and the National Science Foundation
are pleased to announce a scholarship program that will provide up to
$7,825 in scholarship assistance over two years for 26 undergraduates in
one of the following majors: Computer Electronics Technology,
Electrical/Electronics Technology, Engineering, or Science. Scholarships
may be used for tuition, books, and supplies. Twenty-six scholarships
will be awarded for four consecutive years beginning in the fall of
2008.
The primary goal of the Science, Technology, Engineering, and
Mathematics Scholarship (S-STEM) Program is to increase the number of
talented, but financially disadvantaged undergraduates who achieve
associate degrees in the programs listed above. The project will focus
on recruitment and retention of S-STEM students to degree achievement.
All applicants must meet the the following standard criteria:
1. U.S. Citizen, national or alien admitted as a refugee at time of
application.
2. Financial need, defined by the U.S. Department of Educations as Cost
of Attendance (COA) minus the Estimated Family Contribution (EFC) for
undergraduate students
3. Full-time enrollment (12 credits per semester)
4. Academic merit; and if selected, continued academic achievement by
maintaining a 2.8 each semester.
Once selected, a student will be required to maintain full-time status,
make progress toward completion of one of the programs listed above and
participate in related program support activities such as "S-STEM" Club,
Big Brother/Big Sister initiatives and special activities.
