Length: One Semester Program
Purpose: To provide instruction and skills necessary for employment in veterinary hospitals and practices as veterinary assistants. The program focus will be on assisting Doctor of Veterinary Medicine (DMV) and Veterinary Technologist/Technicians in the care and office management of a hospital or clinical practice. Students will learn the basic procedures in veterinary practice and office procedures.
Occupational objectives: Veterinary Assistants work in veterinary hospitals and office practice settings. They provide a variety of skills and services to support and enhance the practice of veterinary medicine.
Admission Requirements: General Admission requirements must be met for the college, applicants must be high school graduates or equivalent and must have completed high school biology.
Program Requirements: Students admitted to the program will be evaluated on their academic and clinical performance. Students placed in clinical affiliates must demonstrate professional behavior. Students who fail to meet professional expectations or clinical objectives will be asked to withdraw from the program. Students will be required to have a background check prior to entering the program. Students are responsible for travel to clinical placements.
Academic Requirements: Students must maintain a grade of “C” in all veterinary courses to receive the certificate.
